Bello El-Rufai, the representative for Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has stated that he cannot mediate between his father, Nasir El-Rufai, and Governor Uba Sani regarding their ongoing political dispute.
He emphasized that it is not his role as a lawmaker to resolve the differences between the two former allies.
El-Rufai also expressed that he does not view the current investigation into the El-Rufai administration as inherently negative, but stressed that it should be carried out with sincere intentions.
Speaking on BBC Hausa’s Mahangar Zamani on Saturday, he said, “It is not my responsibility. My focus is on fulfilling my mandate to the people of Kaduna North. I believe in peace and loyalty. If I were to address any issue, I would prefer to do so privately.”
He also expressed deep respect for his father, noting, “There is no one I know politically like Malam Nasiru. He has been my mentor since I was young, and he will always be. He is my father. A father is a father.”
El-Rufai acknowledged his discomfort with the ongoing conflict between the two leaders, given their significance in his life. He stated, “It’s unsettling. I wouldn’t want to see my enemies fighting each other. I cherish peace.”
He further mentioned that such disputes are part of life’s challenges, comparing them to broken marriages or friendships that end. “It is important to preserve relationships despite difficulties,” he added.
When asked about the cause of the rift, El-Rufai revealed, “Neither of them has told me what happened. I only realized things were no longer the same. People want to make it seem like a dramatic falling out, like Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan. Some even ask me to share information about the situation.”
On the investigation of his father’s administration by Governor Uba Sani, he said, “It’s not wrong to investigate, but it must be done with the right motives, not to humiliate someone or settle scores. If done for selfish reasons, Allah will judge. Allah may forgive personal mistakes, but He won’t overlook the harm caused to others.”
