The University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan has denied reports claiming that its wards are being powered by generators funded by patients.
The hospital’s spokesperson, Funmi Adetuyibi, dismissed these reports in a statement released on Sunday.
On behalf of the hospital management, Ms. Adetuyibi clarified that the allegations were baseless and unfounded.

She criticized the credibility of the report, pointing out the misleading depiction of low-capacity generators and stated that UCH does not use such small generators.
She reassured the public that the story was a deliberate and malicious misrepresentation.
Despite being disconnected by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on October 27 due to outstanding debts, UCH management has continued to focus on delivering essential services such as clinical care, research, and training.
Ms. Adetuyibi highlighted the hospital’s ongoing efforts to find alternative and sustainable power solutions, including the use of solar inverters and diesel-powered generators in critical areas like wards, accident and emergency units, labor wards, and operating theaters.
She added that the hospital has been actively engaging with well-wishers, stakeholders, the supervising ministry, and IBEDC to address the power challenges.
Many donors have supported these efforts, contributing to the implementation of the power solutions.
She concluded by reaffirming that the story in question was false, unfounded, and malicious, and thanked the public for their continued patience and understanding during this challenging period.
