The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has voluntarily surrendered to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Eleweran in Abeokuta, the state capital.
This was announced in a statement issued by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Wednesday.
“We wish to inform the public that Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, at exactly 13:23 hours today, February 19, 2025,” she said.
Portable had been declared wanted by the police for allegedly attacking three state government officials while they were performing their duties at his bar in the Sango area of the state.
The statement clarified that his presence at the State Criminal Investigation Department is part of an ongoing investigation, and assured the public that proper procedures will be followed in handling the case, with updates to be shared as necessary.
The police urged the public to stay calm and refrain from spreading unverified information, reiterating the Ogun State Police Command’s commitment to justice and public order.
Portable was declared wanted in a police gazette released on Monday evening.
The incident in question took place on February 5, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m. when three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were conducting an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.
During the operation, the officials met an elderly man, later identified as Portable’s father, at Odogwu Bar, a property linked to the artist. Upon introducing themselves and requesting the building’s approved plans, Portable’s father informed them that his son was not available.
Shortly after, Portable, armed with a firearm and accompanied by a gang of nine thugs, attacked the unarmed officials.
The enforcement officers sustained various injuries but managed to escape and report the incident to the Ota Area Command, which later referred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.
While nine accomplices were arrested, Portable fled the scene and went into hiding. Multiple formal invitations were sent to him to appear at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, but he deliberately ignored them without providing any cause or legal representation.
After his repeated evasion, the Ogun State Police Command obtained a court order declaring him wanted.
The public is urged to provide any information that could assist in his arrest, with a warning that anyone aiding or harboring the suspect will face legal consequences.
Relevant information can be reported to the nearest police station or through the Ogun State Police Command’s official communication channels.
