A well-known celebrity native doctor, widely recognized as Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba, was apprehended by local vigilante group Agunechemba.
His arrest was confirmed in a brief video shared on the Anambra State New Media Facebook page on Saturday.
The incident occurred in Oba, located in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The post mentioned that Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba had denied any involvement in ‘Oke Ite’ and was taken into custody for further investigation by security authorities.
Sources revealed that the native doctor was transported to the office of Deputy Governor Dr. Onyeka Ibezim for questioning.
In a video circulating on social media, Akwa Okuko denied his connection to ‘Oke Ite,’ explaining that he had stopped working with it long ago.
In Igbo, ‘Oke Ite’ translates to “big pot,” which he clarified wasn’t a charm but a term they used due to its placement in a pot.
The deputy governor responded, stating that further investigation would be carried out, and they would need to visit the locations where these activities take place.
Akwa Okuko has recently been in the spotlight. In July 2023, he was abducted by armed assailants and held captive until a ransom was reportedly paid for his release.
He is also accused of creating charms for kidnappers disguised as internet fraudsters, who have been terrorizing the state.
In an effort to curb criminal activities in Anambra, Governor Charles Soludo’s administration enacted the Anambra State Homeland Security Law in 2025.
The law imposes strict penalties on native doctors involved in creating or administering charms, including notorious ones like ‘Odeshi,’ ‘Oke Ite,’ and ‘Mkpu Egbe.’
