Shafi’u Bawa, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) assigned to the 61 Police Mobile Force in Kontagora, the headquarters of Niger state’s Kontagora LGA, reportedly committed suicide.
A police officer told Daily Trust that the deceased allegedly committed suicide on Saturday afternoon.
The officer’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from the ceiling in his chamber.

According to sources, his father, Mallam Usman Bawa, was the first to raise the alarm and report the incident to Kontagora police.
SP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, confirmed the incident.
According to Abiodun, “On 8/2/2025 at about 2pm, it was reported that one ASP Shafiu Bawah of 61pmf Kotangora committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling for an unknown reason.”
“The body was removed and delivered to the family for burial. “The incident is being investigated to determine the reason for such action.”
