The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced on Friday that there will be a seven-hour power outage on Saturday and Sunday in certain areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, explained that the outage is due to scheduled maintenance on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm each day.
The maintenance involves the annual preventive servicing of two transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
Mbah noted that power will be disrupted in several areas during the maintenance period.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria informs the public that its maintenance team will carry out annual preventive maintenance on the 2x100MVA, TR3 & TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja,” the statement stated.
“The planned power interruptions are unavoidable, as Abuja DisCo will not be able to receive bulk power from the transformers during this time. Power will be restored to the affected areas once the maintenance is complete.”
On Saturday, February 22, power outages will impact the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro for seven hours.
Additionally, areas such as Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Apo Mechanic, and nearby locations will also experience the same seven-hour outage.
Mbah clarified that these disruptions are necessary because the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will not receive bulk power from the transformers during the maintenance.
TCN apologized for any inconvenience caused to affected customers, assuring them that power would be restored after the maintenance is completed.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause the affected electricity customers,” the company said.
