Bamisaiye revealed that the estimated Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seized illegal goods was N398.27 million, including applicable taxes, emphasizing the significant threat posed by drug smuggling to society, particularly the youth.
He also expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adeniyi, for his instrumental support in the fight against smuggling by providing essential resources and equipment to the Western Marine Command.
“This assistance has empowered the Command to achieve notable successes in ensuring that smugglers are unable to find safe routes on our waterways, helping to create a secure environment for legitimate trade,” Bamisaiye said.
The commander reiterated the Command’s firm commitment to protecting the waterways from harmful substances, noting that drug smuggling not only fuels crime but also destroys communities and lives.
He urged the public to avoid supporting the trafficking and consumption of illegal substances, as it is contributing to the decline of the youth and society.
Following established protocols, the seized drugs will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Bamisaiye also expressed the Command’s commitment to working with other agencies to ensure justice and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
He praised the officers for their diligence and dedication, encouraging them to continue working together in service to the nation and its safety.
