The Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, officiated a mass wedding for 21 couples in Niger State.
The ceremony, held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Nsanji Nkoso, Magama local government area, united couples who had completed their traditional marriage rites and undergone three months of marriage counseling.
Bishop Yohanna explained that the ceremony was important to ensure the couples were legally and religiously married.
He stressed that cohabiting without a church blessing is wrong, and urged the couples to build their marriages on love and companionship, as marriage is a lifelong commitment.
One of the couples, Mr. and Mrs. Cyprian Uche, expressed their gratitude to the bishop for formalizing their union. After cohabiting for 22 years and having five children, they were thrilled to be officially married.
Mrs. Uche also mentioned that she was now eligible to participate in the women’s fellowship, a role she had been unable to take on previously.
Rev. Fr. Francis Joshua, the parish priest, shared that the couples had gone through thorough counseling and met all the necessary requirements before the ceremony.
He commended the bishop for his dedication in ensuring the couples were properly married and encouraged them to remain committed to their vows.
