The local government elections in Osun State are proceeding as planned, despite calls from the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Nigeria Police Force to suspend the exercise.
Governor Ademola Adeleke cast his vote early at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Unit 9, Ward 2 in Ede North Local Government Area (LGA).
After voting, the governor described the election process as peaceful and urged the people of Osun State to come out, vote, and return home peacefully.
“The process has been very peaceful. I made a broadcast to the people of Osun State urging that the election should be calm, with no violence, because Osun State is a very peaceful place,” Governor Adeleke stated.
“They should vote peacefully and return home peacefully as well. There should be no issues. We must avoid giving anyone the chance to claim there was violence here or there. We are peaceful people in Osun State, and we want to keep it that way.”
