Christine Middlemiss, the UK chief veterinary officer, emphasized the importance for bird keepers to understand the specific regulations that apply to them.
She urged them to maintain strong biosecurity, stay vigilant for signs of illness, and promptly report any suspected cases to the Animal and Plant Health Agency.
While the risk to humans remains low, bird flu cases are increasing globally.
In the US, around 10% of egg-laying hens have been culled, causing egg prices to surge.
The New York Times reported that egg prices at stores and restaurants have reached a record $7 (£5.60) per dozen, up from $2.25 (£1.80) last autumn.
In the UK, egg prices have risen by 16% from early 2023 to early 2024, according to the latest government data.
However, DEFRA confirms that properly cooked poultry, including eggs, remains safe for consumption.
A housing order is now extended to include York, North Yorkshire, and Shropshire starting Monday, while it continues in East Riding of Yorkshire, Kingston Upon Hull, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk.
Birds within 3km of any infected premises must also be housed.
Since November, 22 avian flu cases have been reported in England, with one in Scotland.
On Saturday, a small backyard flock in Easingwold, North Yorkshire tested positive for the virus.
A protection zone within 3km is now in effect, and the infected flock will be culled.
No cases have been confirmed in Wales or Northern Ireland.
