On Wednesday, the Edo State House of Assembly dismissed all political appointees assigned to its members, effective immediately.
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku made the announcement during a plenary session in Benin.
Agbebaku explained that the decision was unanimously made by all 24 members of the House and assured that the dismissed appointees would receive their salaries for February.
The affected appointees included special advisers, senior special advisers, and others.
He clarified that these appointees had been appointed by House members when the Eighth Assembly was inaugurated in June 2023.
“It has been nearly two years, and the House has decided to relieve these appointees, including special advisers and senior special advisers, of their duties starting today, February 19,” he stated.
Agbebaku also mentioned, “We will meet again to decide on the next steps, but they will receive their salaries for this month.”
